Top 10 reasons to buy Nokia 5230 over iPhone 3GS

IPhone has brought revolution in the field of touchscreen smartphones. Previously, the touch phones used to be mostly business oriented with resistive display. Apple is the first smartphone maker which succeeded in making a full fledged multimedia touchscreen smartphone, thanks to  its capacitive display with multitouch.Today every smartphone maker is trying to compete with iPhone. Developers are also most interested in developing applications and games for iPhone because of its wide user base. But your most dearful iphone isn’t without flaws. In few areas it gets beaten by even the cheapest entry level  Nokia touchscreen, 5230. I will give you 10 good reasons to choose Nokia 5230 over iPhone.

Nokia 5230 Nokia 5230 Apple iPhone 3gs Apple iPhone 3gs

Nokia 5230 vs iPhone 3GS -

1. Screen Resolution – Nokia 5230 has higher resolution (360×640 pixels) display than iPhone 3GS (320×480 p).

2. Bluetooth File Transfer – These days Bluetooth file transfer is a must have feature for sharing multimedia files with you friends on the go. iPhone don’t let you use Bluetooth for this purpose. It can be used only for making calls and listening to music over stereo Bluetooth headset.

3. Multitasking – If you have used a smartphone with multitasking then you will feel handicapped using iPhone 3GS. Multitasking lets you use lot of applications simultaneously and you can easily switch between them or close any application as per your wish.

4. Flash in web Browser – We all know that iPhone has the highly rated Safari web browser. But are you aware that it lacks Flash support. These days most of the sites use flash which can be accessed with Nokia 5230′s S60 web browser.

5. Overheating – iPhone 3GS has a powerful hardware, may be thats the cause behind overheating reported by many users.

6. File Manager – Just like Windows Explorer a File Manager is a must for every smartphone to browse through all you files at one place. iPhone 3GS lacks file manager.

7. FM Radio – Even an entry level basic cellphone offers Radio, and this high end multimedia device lacks FM. Nokia 5230 has Stereo FM with RDS.

8. Expandable Memory – iPhone offers sufficient storage space for multimedia files but support for memory card is always a good thing. Moreover, you cannot use iPhone’s huge memory as USB mass storage device in Windows.

9. Battery – The iPhone hardware keeps on improving which is good thing, but whats the use if it affects the battery life so much. If you want to keep you iPhone awake for long hours you are bound to limited usage of other phone features.

10. Price – iPhone 3GS $199 price sounds good to hear, but along with that comes the  monthly plan which pushes iPhone 3GS price to around $1000. Unlocked Nokia 5230 is expected  to launch for just $199.

top 4 reasons to buy iPhone 3GS over nokia 5230
    1. capacative touchscreen
    2. good combination of size and display pixal value.
    3.lots of software and games.
4.You can update OS with new features, as far as it’s capable to hardware.
lots of more reasons present, but these are most and importent for everyone.

  13. Parag Says:

    Guys…
Iphone is way better than nokia 5230

    1. Multi touch interface
    2. Iphone app store
    3. Iphone processor

Nokia N8 will be a good comparison for Apple Iphone 3GS…
But dude get realistic nokia 5230 is not even near to iphone specs…

  14. Michael Ebbage Says:

    Replying to sam’s four points:

    1. Yes, the iPhone has a capacitive touch screen. Whilst the 5230 uses resistive, it’s still very good, responsive and easy to use. It’s a million times better than the pitiful touch buttons on the Samsung U600.

    2. The iPhone has a good display size. But the resolution on the 5230 is very slick. It’s down to personal preference as tp whether you prefer average size, good quality images or larger sized, average quality.

    3. The 5230 also has lots of software and games. There’s the new Ovi store for starters. More importantly, the 5230 supports Java – meaning that you’re not tied to once store/source of applications and you could even write your own without restrictive licensing.

    4. The 5230 also has the ability to receive and install updates and new features.

  15. James Says:

I just loaded up my site on the WIND network with this brand new Nokia 5230 and maaaaan it looks crisp :) While some might argue the iPhone is a bigger screen, the candybar form factor on the 5230 is ideal to fit in my front pocket. It has tap/vibration to simulate pressing a real button which is super cool. I also like the spring-loaded button on the side for keylock/power-saving feature. This phone is really great the more I dive into it! On the iPhone apps side… while I think yes there are cool (time-wasting) apps on the iPhone. I think the App Store has a lifespan, more websites with better business productivity will have mobile pages, making the web open again. Thanks Nokia for a great phone and WIND mobile for a 1700MHz faster network, parting ways with the big three has never been more satisfying.

  16. Pasturelands Says:

Nice review! I have a 5230, silver with stylus model, and it totally ROCKS!! With the latest upgrade v20.00 which I downloaded this morning, my phone is snappier than ever!

I have never EVER lusted for the Iphone (despite the over-the-top hype).

5 reasons why I NEVER like Iphones:

    1. The price — it is as expensive as 2 desktop computers, and that f*cking phone is not even a computer yet!!

    2. Missing FM radio — this is a basic, but crucial feature, in case you run out of power but still need to listen to music! FM drains only about 1/3 the power it takes to play MP3s on your phone.

    3. Proprietary Mumbo-jumbo — Apple has an air-tight, lock-stock-and-barrel, licensed phone and apps. Nobody can change the themes, change the covers, add non-existent external memory (so Apple has virtual MONOPOLY of the hardware sales), or even add do-it-yourself softwares, like Java. EVERYTHING you put in the Iphone must be from Apple, or the phone will reject it. BUMMER!!

    4. So-so battery. You’d think that with a phone as expensive as the IPhone, you’ll get the best long-lasting battery too– wrong! What’s the use of having soo many apps, when your power runs out faster than quicksilver? My 5230, in spite of all the games, calls, GPS, mp3, browsing, chatting, and downloading I do with it, lasts me a full day. For a $150-dollar phone, that is one absolutely heavy-duty battery! AMAZING!!

    5. Lack of Personality. Nobody can change the themes, the backcovers, the front, or even upgrade the memory of the Iphone. Everybody’s I-phones look the same black bloc, except for some who bought the white ones. Very Funny.

They should re-name the Iphone to the STEVE JOBS PHONE. You buy only COPIES of Steve’s phone, so you can’t touch anything inside it to personalize it.

If your life doesn’t revolve around a phone, your money is better spent on reliable and cheaper phones like 5230 which get the SAME JOB DONE as the Iphone for LESS than a QUARTER OF THE PRICE!!

You can actually buy around 4 or 5 Nokia 5230s for the price of just 1 Iphone, but nokia has superior features comparable if not better than the Iphone!! THANK YOU, NOKIA!!

  17. Tiffany Says:

Nokia overall is better than the ipnone, you can use any nokia to tether to your laptop through the nokia pc suite which is free. The 5230 runs java AND symbian apps, so it has like infinite customization. Nokia really just kicks apples but, i cant wait til nokia gets more popular here in the u.s. Everyone will be capable of customizing their phone with as many apps amd themes their little heart could desire. The new quote will be “Apple who?”- oh, ps, all the themes and games i mentioned are free.

  18. Leon Says:

Great article, that and the 640 px screen clinched it for me.

Good comments, particularly regarding tethering to a Win PC. Nokia phones have a huge legacy of serving as PCs’ modems and its odds on your Linux or Windows will be happy to buddy up.

True, I dislike Apple. Content is still king and the iphone is overpriced and the mac a vehicle for artists.

I think processors are pretty similar and a feature vs efficiency balance must be struck. Throwing money at new plant helps here, ditto for digital architecture, but Nokia and ARM are easily able to challenge / dominate Apple.

    Power to the petit portable.

  19. Leebus Says:

I love how everybody forgets that you can unlock an iPhone and you can change anything you want on it. In ease of use the iPhone wins without a fight. It’s so much easier to do what you want to do without fiddling in menus. Thr screen itself feels better and is easier. I’ve had my iPhone since it first came out and it hasn’t failed me yet. It’s solid and reliable.

  20. Nauman Says:

    COOOOOOOOOL……
    More then EXPECTED

  21. dov Says:

    Guys!!!

Global OVI maps with navigation!!!! Free, for life!!!
Don’t leave this one out!!! It’s unbeatable!!!
    iphone gps apps are 100$/country!
So on the navigation part Nokia pwned the industry..
Also they make more user friendly phones..
On the iphone you feel limited, controlled, ruled..
I miss the wifi in the 5230 though.. But the price is right!! :)

  22. Sallie Says:

I just got the 5230 and love it. It’s awesome being able to listen to music and browse the internet on this phone. It is not the fasted phone and has a really small amount of onboard memory, but I’m really happy with it. For wil calling it fragile. I’d owned it less than 24 hours when I accidentally dropped it off a balcony and it fell almost 2 stories onto a hard floor and while it came apart. I just put it back together and the screen and case are fine and not even dented. This can be compared to most of my friends with IPhones and touches who have cracked screens from carrying it around in their bags/pockets, lol. And the data plan with Tmobile is only $10 a month and it was free from Radio Shack with a free bluetooth that you can listen to music with. Awesome buy!

  23. Saurav Says:

    I agree with the list.
Iphone sounds rich but what’s the use of having that non-customizable phone. Instead we can turn our 5230 into iphone by just downloading its theme and apps.
    5230 rocks, iphone sucks.
Apple always charge high, whether it be their ipod, laptops or mobile phones. these motherfuckers think us fool that we’ll pay so high. Only the intelligent ones will quickly find what a big fraud that apple is.

  24. tangerinesus Says:

The Nokia 5230 uses Ovi Suites and the Ovi Store which gives you A LOT of free and paid apps and games. If you’re using your iPhone to play games all the time, you should get a gaming console, not a cell phone…

I agree with dov. The Ovi GPS and Voice Navigation software should be on this list. Its quality is comparable to the best, and the best part is that it’s FREE!

Also to sam, the 5230′s software/OS can be updated. I just updated mine.

And lastly, Saurav, I totally agree. Except for trying to make my 5230 look like an iPhone. My 5230 deserves better. :P

  25. BonzitorSA Says:

Dudes. I hv been dieng to get an iphone bt after buyng my nokia 5230 nuron…am very hapy and dnt need the iphone. Jst need to update my 5230 dan unleash more and more.

  26. tester101 Says:

Dude get real , iphones gps Is free which uses AGPS teck to calculate the position . 4 starters The iphone has Wifi .

    * has multi touch
    * is 1000 times more sensitive
    * millions of apps in Appstore
    * very very fast
    * @Saurav who sayes iphone cant be customized?? have u heard about spring board ..?? and changing the wallapper in 5230 is not customization.
    * when u have 64 gb of memory wot u want more..??
    * when u have a WiFi u can listen to all the radios in the world .
    * multitasking available in ver4
    * video chat & folders available in ver4
    * and when u are having a 3f phone respect it and send it as email or through wifii (opps srry 4 dat 5230 d’nt hve one) ..please stop embarrassing u r self
    * the screen size is smaller than iphone … so we are done wid the resolution (by da way iver4 comes wid retina screen ..google it)
    * i a using iphone and mine has never over heated. please stop wid this stupidness

n5230 is a nice phone wid in its prize are [period] .d’nt compare it wid iphone [warning]

  27. mahipal Says:

    i got 5230 really good phone..games,apps,camera,music,mail setup,gps n navigator, maps, and video as well…….cool

  28. nagarajumadaka Says:

nokia 5230 best in price aswellas features.it has dual softwares java and symbian togeather.bigscreen.i love it.

  29. bellzindonesia Says:

dude.. it’s true. we can’t compare the n5230 with the iphone. even it’s 2g. bcoz we r in the diferent class. it’s really sucks on d price indeed. but they r really good on the feature. right now i use my n5230, its really great and even its resistive touch screen, but preety comfortable though.. and it have an ovi store and ovi maps which is im well satisfied with a low budget phone. thx to nokia.

  30. Marcin Says:

Now, there is iPhone 4 which is much better than Nokia 5230. 5 MPix cam, display with 960 x 640 pix, 512 MByte RAM (Nokia 128MB), 1ghrz processor (Nokia about 300 Mhrz), WiFi – most useful tool on earth. Many features can be added by jailbrak like Bluetooth file transfer and designs.

  31. Frank Says:

iphone is no clever choice because of it’s limitations and the incredible high price. no battery change – throw it away after 1000 charges. no fm radio – no free reception. no real bluetooth – you can’t send a picture from device to device. and don’t forget: iphone means chinese low cost production with bad working conditions. Why should i pay 700 euros, when i get all the missing features for 140?

  32. psilas Says:

Pound 4 Pound the Nokia wins without doubt.

Both have features that the other really needs and both have limitations.

If you want ease of use, TONS of apps/games and an overpriced fashion statement, get the iphone.

If you want lots of apps/games,better connectivity (bluetooth), flash video streams(Skyfire), java support and a MUCH better price get the 5230.

ps. T-mobiles PAYG 6month internet deal is INSANE, no matter what phone you have. Makes every other tariff look like a festering turd. T-Mobile should be praised, the rest should be sued.

  33. Fabio Says:

i’m waiting for the nokia arrives to my store i’m saving money like forever
Here in luxembourg it cost 139.00€ (unlocked)

  34. pUNJABI Says:

5230 TAKES OVER IPHONE AS YOU CAN BUY THREE 5230 INSTEAD OF ONE IPHONE FOR YOUR THREE CHILDREN.
