Nokia 5230 Nuron T-Mobile USA
Usually Nokia smartphones are first launched in US and Europe and later on, released in Asian countries. But Nokia 5230 being a budget smartphone is targeted towards Asian market for budget conscious buyers. The US version of Nokia 5230 is named Nuron and will be supported by T-mobile. Nokia 5230 Nuron comes preloaded with Ovi Maps application (Maps of US, Canada and Mexico are included) which offers free voice guided navigation. Earlier there was a yearly subscription for voice guided navigation. The other Nokia 5230 variants are 5233 and 5235. Nokia 5233 is a 3G and GPS less version of 5230 and Nokia 5235 offers Nokia “comes with music” package.

Nokia 5230 Nuron is probably one the cheapest touchscreen smartphone offering 3G and GPS. It will be supported by T-Mobile’s 3G network. Nokia previously launched a budget touchscreen smartphone 5530 XpressMusic which faced lot of criticism due to lack of 3G and many people prefer 3G over Wifi. However, Nokia 5530 design was better. Nokia 5230 is almost similar in looks to 5800 XpressMusic. But it lacks Wifi and TV Output. Moreover, the Nokia 5230 Sales Package and Camera are both inferior. But these small changes has resulted in a drastic price drop in favor of budget conscious buyers who just need a basic touchscreen phone with latest connectivity options.Let’s see how does it compete with other budget touch phones such as Samsung Star, Samsung Corby and LG Cookie.
Nokia 5230 Nuron will be available in T-Mobile stores and online at t-mobile.com in next few weeks.

How do I get the phone to switch to silent? When I turn it off it does not give me the option to go to silent. I accidentily changed the profile and I need to get “silent” back!

On the homescreen just touch, where the current profile is shown, For eg General and a dropdown will occur.Choose Silent.
The other way out is to go to Menu>Settings>Personal>Profiles>Silent>Activate

Great information on this site – Thanks! I just received an unlocked 5230 Nuron from ebay. I want to use a millenicom sim card (G3 mobile broadband provider using T-mobile network). It works on my old HTC 9000 (simply set apn to gpn), but I can’t figure it our here. Any ideas?

I think I like the 5230, but there are many features that I do not know how to use yet. I cannot get the GPS to work properly, and the T-Mobile store clerks are not yet familiar with the phone. The T-Mobile phone providers are ignorant- they just try to read from a pre-printed manual, I do not think that most of them have actually touched the phone. NO HELP AT ALL!!! I am still trying to figure out how to use the GPS. If anyone can help-I would appreciate it.

I’ve had the phone for a month and it keeps getting better and better as you discover more and more, and adjust to the phone’s many features. Interesting that this product has not been hyped more by the media in the US, but we prefer to give a $1k to Mr. Jobs and listen to him explain how clever he is … the I-phone 4 has the antenna built right into the phone…amazing!
