Nokia 5230 Firmware Update – v12.0.089
Update – Nokia 5230 Firmware v12.0.089 is now hackable !
If you have Nokia 5230 and you wish to check whether a new firmware is available for your phone, go to Menu>Applications>Tools>SW update. Yesterday i checked and found that an updated firmware v12.0.089 is available.
Over the air (OTA) update is currently not available so you have to update Nopkia 5230 firmware via PC suite. As the 5230 sales package differs region wise, there may be no USB data cable in your sales package, in that case you need to purchase Nokia CA-101 USB cable to update the firmware. After installing Nokia 5230 PC suite in your computer, attach your phone via USB cable and select PC suite mode.
Now if you will type *#0000# on your phone’s homescreen, it will show you the updated firmware version 12.0.089.

To day i update my 5230 firmware to version 12.0.089 via internet. Its work guys..no problem if you don’t have data cable.

Its simple..
1.open aplications menu.
2.open software update.
3.your phone will automatically refresh the available software.
4.choose the 12.0.089 software from the list.
5.press option.
6.press start update
7.your telephone will automatically download the software(be sure you have good data connection, i use 3G)
8.after download is done, the software will automatically installed.
9.it take a few minutes and your phone will restart.
10.after that you can check your new software 12.0.086 by press *#0000#

That’s called OTA (over the air) update.I checked but it was not available in my case.

I think the accelerometer reacts faster compare to the last firmware. That’s the only thing i’ve noticed. I’m still hoping for the landscape homescreen like in n97. I hope nokia give it to us, 5230/5530/x6 users, like they give the kinetic scrolling for the 5800 users.

hey guys, do you have photo editor app for 5230? Yah, I know, we have it already on our images and video gallery but i’m looking for the adobe photoshop kinda type. I need it coz the editor on our phone is very limited. You can’t even flip the picture horizontally or vertically. Please if you have, kindly post the site or the link… Thanks.

i just updated 2day.. and i think i found something bad.. try to set the touch vib on, touch tone on, and key tone on..
then try the telephone, the number (1-0) and also the * and # didn’t sound any tone when you touch but else do, the weird is, it is related with key tone, turn it off and you got the tone
sucks, as far as i remember, it works just fine b4..
the other is, contact bar doesnt vib or sound when you touch it (or im the one who just forgot that it is not).. that 2 prob seems not solved by factory reset and dont wonna try hard reset, its wastin my time after all..
i think it is still lotta bug nested there that we dont know

I for some reason can’t update for the life of me!

I have installed the update, I used OTA. I think ovi suite is very slow. I would say there is a noticable change to how the accelerometer responds, its faster…just a bit. I think ovi music has been updated as well. The sound quality has changed a bit. The gps has become a little poor…or maybe it is just my phone. It takes a little longer to acquire satelite signals. They haven’t fixed the system error u get when you press the clock in models with that problem. Thats about all I have noticed so far.

oh shoot – i bought the phone and shortly afterwards updated the firmware to 12.0.089
Now I found, it could be handy to hack my phone (too late ?)
can anyone confirm that this firmware is unhackable? How long may it take until new hack for this firmware is available ?

hi, i updated my phone through NSU and after successful updation the phone didnt switch on automatically(the phone was FULLY charged b4 updating).It only vibrates when i press the switch on button!!!please help

hi, i updated the 5230 downloading the nokia app, an use a usb cable, but when it finished the movile gets dark. when i press power butom it vibrates but nothing more. anyone knows what happening?

I have purchased nokia 5230 mobile recently.
It has 10 version of firmware. I have tried to update it by using internet on mobile. But there is no update available?
Is there anything wrong?

I am having trouble receiving calls while the data connection is active. the caller keeps getting the message that my phone is off….
I have updated to the latest software but i am still having the same problem….

So I have the Nokia 5230 Nuron (T-mobile; USA) and my firmware is limited to the FW: 11.2.080, is there anyway to update the firmware, even if it says no updates available. I want that new Firmware.

hey, got same problem as Javier (March 25th, 2010 at 7:25 pm) but i was busy updating to latest firmware for my 5230 thru my PC when my kid brother accidently tripped the electricity and my pc went dead. my phone hasnt worked since and just give a vibration when i push the power button. how can it be fixed?????? or am is it a lost case? please guys my phones 1 month old

I tried to update the firmware from V12 to V20 using a micro USB cable (Windows Vista Business, latest Nokia Software Updater). The NSU initiated the process(download -> update) but after a while there was no progress anymore and the NSU notified that the connection to the phone was lost (cable still attached). I tried as was indicated by the NSU: to remove the USB cable, battery and power adapter wait a while, attach the USB cable insert the battery and connect the power adapter. It seemed like the NSU resumed the update process but ….no, same notification after 5 minutes or so.
Now the device is dead(only vibration when pushing the power button).I went to a Nokia service center and the specialist there (he does this work for a living) was also not able to breathe new live into the darn thing. He told me this happens sometimes but why he obviously did not now. I used this pc before to update another Nokia without any problems. The phone is now sent back to a repair center under (limited) warranty.

Hey. eventually took my phone to nokia care centre after trying to fix it with phoenix and jaf. couldnt get it working cause both apps couldnt establish a usb connection.took phone in on monday, was told by melissa (very pretty)that it will have to be sent thru to joburg cause apparently its a high level 3 repair or something. im waiting patiently and will post any further developements

hi,my NSU when updating my 5230 to 20.0.005 thro NSU,goes on do downloading the updates beyond 132.1 mb till it reaches ~500 mb and then tells downloading failed. I have a good broadband connection though..Both OVI updater and NSU updater does the same… Help me out… Thanx in advance…

hey i tried to update my 5230 to V20. While installing the firmware , the USB Flasing Generic driver has failed to install and my update is not happening wat can i do to fix this problem ?

Just updated my phone software based on advice by you:

hey guys….i installed nokia software updater in windows 7…but wen i opened the application..it get stuck with “Starting application”…then it never opens…so i tried in OVI suit to update my phone….but also stuck with..”Preparing download.”
it never goes to next page….is there any other option to update other than Nokia updater or OVI suit..thnxs in advance

Hello friends! Our beloved nokia 5230 has again got a firmware update(v20.0.004). And its so cool. I’ve just updated yesterday(16.7.10). It has got an improved flash player,kinetic scrolling,improved browser and some other things. I don’t know whether it is hackable or not! But i’ll advice you to update your firmware;),say thanks if you like. One more thing i wanna say to you all. Any one who has nokia 5230,please recommend this site,the more the people the more will be informers and helpers,thank you!
